Haiti Mountain Women's Homes Heavily Damaged by Quake (Video)

We drove to St.Etienne, which is high up into the mountains to meet with the Fondespwa women. The devastation resulting from the earthquake is even more severe than in the valley. What is sad, these women were already so materially poor. Unfortunately, as it is fairly difficult to reach them, they will be the last to receive aid in terms of tents, tarps and food. Concerning transitional housing (homes that last a year) to protect them during the severe rainy season beginning in about 2 months, it will not happen. For long term permanent housing, most likely years.
At 12:00 today, I happened to walk into a church to rest and there were 80 people primarily women and children praying and singing. I inquired what the focus of the praying was and they stated, thanking God for preserving their lives and giving them a chance to continue on. As has been noted so often in these blogs...they are an incredibly resistant people.
